Slaven Bilić gave an honest assessment of Albion’s disappointing 2-0 defeat at Fulham on Monday evening.
The Baggies boss accepted Albion were well below par at Craven Cottage and said his side must improve.
“It was a very bad performance,” said Bilić.
“We had two really good performances recently against Burnley and Brighton and it gave us confidence.
“It showed in the shape, patterns and quality that the guys showed tonight but after five minutes, it disappeared in every aspect of the game.
“I told the guys that we can’t rely on something to happen. We can’t just rely on quality and maybe some teams can, but we can’t so we have to be more hungry, focused and committed otherwise it’s going to be very difficult for us.
“Everything starts with the work rate and tonight and I didn’t see it because not only do we have to match the opponent, we have to be better in those things than them to have a chance.
“The guys are disappointed but they’re going to be. There’s no reason why we didn’t show it today but we have to show it when it matters in games because this was a massive game for us.”
