Baggies Pastures Green
West Bromwich Albion Football Club and The Albion Foundation have joined forces to ensure they are playing their part in the worldwide environmental sustainability challenge.
‘Baggies Pastures Green’ - a working group created to help improve the club’s sustainability drive and join the fight against climate change - was launched publicly in 2024, but had been meeting internally since 2022.
Led by Director of Operations & SHE (Safety, Health & Environment), Chris Harris, alongside Albion Foundation Director Rob Lake, the group contains members from departments across the club - from events and communications, to the kitchen and facilities. Every person is committed and passionate about sustainability, and how we can improve the football club and our surroundings.
We are committed to the local community, and we are well aware of our sustainable and environmental impact. We believe we have a vital role to play.
Lots has been achieved in a short space of time, and more is right around the corner. Ambitious plans involving the implementation of solar panels is the next big project - they are currently being installed at the club's training base and stadium.
Our ambition is to grow and expand even further into our communities and we commit to creating a business that’s responsible for its environmental and social impact. We will encourage customers, suppliers, staff, and supporters to share our view and work towards a more environmentally sustainable football club.
The Baggies once again supported Green Football Weekend last season - and will do again in the 2026/27 campaign. The most recent message was to 'defend where football lives', because the places we play and watch the game are under threat from extreme weather, from flooded pitches to air pollution and sweltering temperatures.
Climate change is threatening the future of football, with the FA estimating that 100,000 grassroots games are cancelled per year due to pitch conditions. By 2050, one in four English football clubs can expect partial or total stadium flooding each year.
Keep an eye across the club's website and social media channels for further sustainability updates - or get in touch with ideas HERE.
