Albion started their 2026/27 pre-season schedule with a 3-0 win against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday afternoon.
St. George’s Park hosted the summer friendly on a scorching summer's day which saw 22 players gain important match minutes at the home of English football.
It was a contest James Morrison’s men started brightly in, with youngster Souleyman Mandey putting two good opportunities wide of the target during the opening exchanges.
The Baggies pounced on the momentum they created to take the lead through centre-half Krystian Bielik, who - playing his first match minutes since March - peeled away from his marker to head in Cole Deeming’s short-corner routine.
Before long, Albion were two goals up thanks to some sharp play from one of their new recruits, Jimmy-Jay Morgan. The forward showed good footwork to beat one of the Owls’ centre-halves on the edge of the box before being felled in the area.
A spot-kick was awarded and duly dispatched by JJ, converting coolly down the middle of the goal to put Morrison’s men 2-0 up at the break.
Nine new players entered the field for the start of the second 45, while Jayson Molumby and Isaac Price were introduced after 60 minutes.
The Northern Ireland international almost scored instantly, but produced a clever dummy in the box late on to allow Alex Mowatt space to volley home a lovely Alex Williams cross from the right flank - ensuring the Baggies set off for their Portugal training camp with a win from their opening warm-up match.
