Albion were beaten 3-1 at Middlesbrough in a Saturday lunchtime Sky Bet Championship clash.
Will Lankshear’s double and Alfie Jones' late strike gave Boro all three points despite JJ Morgan’s goal - and inflicted a first league defeat of the season on the Baggies.
James Morrison’s men are back in home action this Wednesday when they host Charlton Athletic.
The visitors largely controlled proceedings during the first half - though their long spells of possession didn’t quite translate into clear-cut chances. The most notable opportunity was a good move that saw Jayson Molumby play in Felix Horn Myhre, but his finish went wide.
Down the other end Middlesbrough created a few chances without scoring either. Riley McGree twice fired off target, while Lankshear also saw an attempt blocked just before the break.
But it was Lankshear who netted straight after the restart - following home Morgan Whittaker’s shot, which had struck the post.
And the Baggies had to dig in to avoid conceding again. Max O’Leary excellently stopped Ousmane Diakite accidentally scoring an own-goal and also kept out Callum Brittain’s header among a dangerous Boro period.
Morrison’s side got through those tough moments and found a leveller via Morgan. The in-form striker met Price’s pinpoint cross to loop a header over Radek Vitek for his fourth competitive goal of the season.
However, the game changed direction once more 17 minutes from time, Lankshear converting another rebound to net his second against his former club.
The hosts then made it three as Alfie Jones' effort squeezed through with a couple of minutes left.
