Albion 1-1 Southampton

Isaac Price scores his penalty against Southampton.

Albion played out an entertaining Sky Bet Championship draw with Southampton on Tuesday evening.

Isaac Price’s first-half opener from the penalty spot was cancelled out by Samuel Edozie’s close-range effort either side of the break, meaning the two sides had to settle for a point at The Hawthorns.

JJ Morgan was first to breach the Saints’ defensive line and almost took full advantage of Price’s clever turn and tidy through ball, but in search of the roof of Daniel Peretz’s net, blazed over the crossbar.

The Baggies continued in pursuit of the opener, as Jayson Molumby saw Peretz equal to his long-range attempt, before Morgan’s acrobatic volley flew high and wide.

And just three minutes later, they had the early settler they were looking for. Rabby Nzingoula was fouled inside the penalty area - Price sent the visiting ‘keeper the wrong way from 12 yards for his sixth of the season.

After going without a shot on goal in the first period, Tonda Eckert’s side responded well at the start of the second, equalising through Samuel Edozie and nearly taking the lead when Finn Azaz drew Max O’Leary into a close-range save.

A deflected effort from Azaz would’ve found the bottom corner had it not been for the Baggies’ No.1, while Lewis Dobbin raced through on goal, only to see his finish meet the same fate.

Tammer Bany almost had the final say on a frantic affair in B71 as he raced away on the break, only to see his strike bounce off the foot of the post, leaving both sides to settle for the share of the spoils.
