Participants from across our Active Adult Community Programmes came together to take on the stunning Shropshire hills, embracing the challenge of a Carding Mill Valley hike.
From scenic valleys to rolling climbs and breathtaking viewpoints, the route tested both body and mind. For many, it meant stepping outside their comfort zones and tackling something they might not have thought possible just a few months ago. What stood out most was the encouragement shared along the way, every step, every climb and every moment driven by a collective sense of achievement.
For those involved in our Fit Baggies Programme, the day marked a particularly special milestone. After 12 weeks of hard work and personal growth, the hike was a powerful way to celebrate everything they’ve achieved. It wasn’t just about completing a route; it was about recognising progress, building confidence and proving that with the right support, anything is possible.
The feedback from participants says it all. Debbie reflected on the experience, saying, “Carding Mill Valley is such a beautiful and scenic place… I think I’ve found muscles again that I’d forgotten about! But I’m proud of us all today, we did it.” Her words highlight both the challenge and the pride felt across the group, as well as the teamwork that helped everyone overcome the tougher sections.
Gemma also spoke about the supportive environment, sharing, “I really appreciated the support with my fear of heights, we smashed it.” That sense of encouragement is what makes these moments so special, helping individuals push past personal barriers and achieve something they’ll always remember.
Mark summed up the day perfectly: “What a great day out. Beautiful place, great weather, lovely company. Well done everyone for completing the course. Great that we all did it together. We did it. Many thanks, as always, to Chloe, Shaun, Jonathan, Sameed and all the team for their great support. Hope everyone gets some much needed rest.” His words capture what the day was all about, not just the destination, but the journey shared as a community.
A big thank you goes to Summit Special Adventures for leading the hike with such expertise, ensuring everyone felt safe, supported and able to enjoy the experience fully. Their guidance, alongside the dedication of our team, helped create an environment where participants could challenge themselves with confidence.
Days like this remind us what our programmes are all about, bringing people together, supporting one another and celebrating progress, no matter how big or small. Carding Mill Valley wasn’t just a hike; it was a day filled with resilience, encouragement and shared success.
We’re incredibly proud of every single person who took part. Here’s to continuing the journey, building on this achievement and taking on the next challenge together.
