Fifty participants collectively covered 5,920 miles and raised more than £5,000 for The Albion Foundation during this year's Mozza's Miles challenge.
Supporters from across the Albion family have completed this year’s Mozza’s Miles challenge in an outstanding fashion, collectively covering an incredible 5,920 miles while raising more than £5,000 for The Albion Foundation.
Launched in celebration of West Bromwich Albion legend and Head Coach James Morrison, Mozza’s Miles encouraged supporters to walk, run, cycle or swim throughout October while raising vital funds for Foundation programmes across Sandwell. Participants were invited to take on Morrison-inspired milestone distances, ranging from seven miles, representing his squad number, to 341 miles, marking his total Albion appearances.
The challenge attracted fantastic support, with 50 participants signing up and embracing the opportunity to get active while making a difference in their communities. Together, they amassed an impressive 5,920 miles over the course of the month and surpassed the campaign's £5,000 fundraising target.
Participants have already raised an incredible £5,069, surpassing the challenge’s original £5,000 target, with donations remaining open until Sunday, November 8. The funds raised will support The Albion Foundation’s impactful work across the region, helping people of all ages and backgrounds access opportunities through our Go Local, Grow Our Own and Football for All programmes.
Among the standout performers was Simon Fletcher, who topped the mileage charts with a phenomenal 1,030.8 miles.
Simon became the first participant to break through the 1,000-mile barrier, completing the majority of his distance on a bike through the ROUVY virtual cycling platform. His dedication saw him tackle some of the world's most famous cycling routes from the comfort of his indoor setup, helping to set the pace throughout the challenge.
Another familiar name near the top of the leaderboard was Alfie Giles, last year's highest-mileage participant in the Molumby Miles challenge.
Aiming to build on that accomplishment, Alfie covered an impressive 529.5 miles during October. One of the highlights of his challenge came when he took on the Ipswich Half Marathon in support of The Albion Foundation, adding another memorable chapter to his fundraising efforts.
The challenge also went international thanks to Rich Rushton, who logged miles across multiple cities during the month. His journey took him through New York, London, Preston and Manchester before rounding things off closer to home with a final walk to his local Morrisons.
Rich’s story perfectly captured the spirit of Mozza’s Miles, demonstrating that every mile counts regardless of where it takes place. Whether participants were completing walks around their local neighbourhood, taking on long-distance runs, swimming lengths in the pool or cycling hundreds of miles, every contribution played a part in reaching the challenge’s remarkable totals.
While individual achievements were impressive, the success of Mozza’s Miles was built on the collective efforts of everyone involved. From first-time fundraisers to returning participants pushing themselves to new limits, each challenger helped make a meaningful difference.
Everyone at The Albion Foundation would like to thank all 50 participants, as well as the friends, family members and supporters who donated throughout October.
Although the challenge has officially finished, there is still time to support those taking part before the fundraising deadline on Sunday, November 8.
