West Bromwich Albion host Sunderland on Saturday afternoon for what will be the club's penultimate home league match of the Sky Bet Championship campaign (ko 3pm).

The Baggies recorded an eighth win in ten league games at The Hawthorns on Wednesday night, defeating bottom side Rotherham United 2-0 - extending their unbeaten run to 10 matches in the process.

Visitors Sunderland earned a credible 0-0 draw at Leeds United on Tuesday, but have only won 1 of their last 11 matches.

The Black Cats bagged all three points when the two teams met back in December in the North East, beating the Baggies by two goals to one.

The opponents

Sunderland look set for a mid-table finish in the Sky Bet Championship having struggled to find the same level of consistency which helped them secure a play-off spot during the previous campaign.

The Black Cats head for The Hawthorns sat 13th in the standings and off the back of consecutive goalless draws at home to Bristol City and, most recently, title chasers Leeds United.

The Wearsiders were in top-six contention around Christmas, however, they've only won four second-tier games in 2024, losing nine - a run of results which has seen them slip into the middle of the pack.

Saturday's guests have won five, drawn six and lost ten of their 21 encounters away from the Stadium of Light in the Championship this season, picking up 21 points.

Mike Dodds is their interim boss, and has been since the middle of February after stepping in to fill the void left by the departing Michael Beale.

It's the second time in 2023/24, and the third overall, that Dodds has been handed the responsibility. The former Birmingham City academy coach was in charge when the Black Cats beat the Baggies 2-1 in December.

One to remember

Albion recorded a 3-0 victory at home to Sunderland in the Premier League in September 2013.

Stephane Sessegnon opened the scoring in the first 45 against his former club, before efforts from Liam Ridgewell and Morgan Amalfitano inside the last 14 minutes sealed all three points.
