The hosts

Preston have had a really disappointing start to the 2026/27 term and head into battle with the Baggies at the foot of the Championship table.

Saturday's hosts, who are now into their 12th year in the division, have just four points to their name from the first 11 fixtures, winning once, drawing once and losing nine times. The Lilywhites are the league's joint-lowest scorers and are the team which has conceded the highest amount of goals, issues they'll be keen to address as soon as possible.

They've suffered three defeats in-a-row, slipping to a 1-0 setback at home to Millwall and heavy 4-0 and 4-1 reverses at Birmingham City and Wrexham respectively.

Graham Alexander took over from Paul Heckingbottom in the recent international break and will be desperate to pick up his first victory as boss. The 55-year-old Scot, who is a popular figure at Deepdale, has plenty of history with Preston. He made more than 400 appearances for them as a player over two separate spells, the first between 1999 and 2007 and the second between 2011 and 2012. Alexander also served as caretaker manager for five matches in that second stint.

His managerial career has seen him hold positions at Fleetwood Town, Scunthorpe United, Salford City, Motherwell, MK Dons and, most recently, Bradford City. Preston's new gaffer spent just under three years at Valley Parade with the Bantams, taking charge of 158 matches and winning 79 of them.

Alexander will believe he can turn North End's fortunes around and will hope three points against the Baggies can be the catalyst for positive change.

Classic clash

Albion produced an excellent display to beat Preston 4-0 at Deepdale in September 2023.

Darnell Furlong, Alex Mowatt, Matt Phillips and Kyle Bartley were all on target in the second-tier showdown.

Check out the highlights below.

Did you know...?

Albion have the chance to extend their unbeaten run against Preston North End to eight games on Saturday. The Baggies have won six of the last seven meetings, drawing the other. The last time North End beat Albion was in October 2022 when Emil Riis scored the only goal of the night in the second tier.

The Baggies have been beaten just once in their last eight trips to Deepdale - that narrow 1-0 loss in October 2022. They've won four and drawn three of the other seven fixtures at Preston's home ground.

Albion have scored in all of their last seven games against Saturday's hosts and in 13 of the last 15 meetings with North End.

Former player Graham Alexander will be taking charge of his fourth Preston game since being appointed boss in late September. The Scot made over 400 appearances for the Lancashire outfit and will be determined to get his first win having lost all three of his opening encounters. He scored three penalties for Preston against the Albion between 2001 and 2006.

The Baggies have collected 20 points from their first 11 league games. It's their best return at this stage of a campaign since the 2021/22 term when they were sat on 22 points from the opening 11 matches.
