Four West Bromwich Albion players earned valuable match minutes out on loan over the weekend.
There was a senior debut for young goalkeeper Joe Wallis, who completed the entirety of Chester FC’s 3-1 defeat at South Shields in the Enterprise National League North.
The New Zealand youth international signed an emergency seven-day deal with the Blues and was straight into their XI for the encounter at the Wolf Competitions Stadium.
Chester took the lead through Billy Waters, but Cedwyn Scott brought the scores level before the break. Toby Onanaye made it 2-1 shortly after the hour and Caden Kelly wrapped up the win six minutes from time.
The Blues, who are seventh in the standings after 12 matches, are back in action on Tuesday night when they host Marine – the final game Wallis is available for.
Elsewhere, defender Alfie Gilchrist played 90 minutes for Leyton Orient who slipped to a 2-1 reverse at Burton Albion in Sky Bet League One.
Alex Gilbert’s goal meant the visitors went in 1-0 up at the break, but Burton bounced back and turned the game around in the second half. Kgaogelo Chauke and Will Collar were on target for the Brewers, strikes which leave Orient 15th in the third tier after a dozen games.
Two academy graduates featured for their respective outfits in the Enterprise National League. Cole Deeming was handed a start for Hartlepool and got through 69 minutes of their 2-1 home win over Hornchurch.
Deeming was replaced by Jack Nolan on an afternoon where Angelo Balanta gave the away side the lead just after the interval.
Hartlepool fought back though and came from behind to claim three important points, with Will Harris and Luke Charman bagging their goals, despite having Neo Eccleston dismissed at 1-0 down.
The victory moves Deeming’s team up to 19th and on to 15 points from 14 played.
Winger Ollie Bostock also started in the fifth tier of English football, making the XI for Boston United who lost 4-2 at Eastleigh.
The Wales youth international completed 70 minutes before being replaced by Tom Cursons down on the south coast.
Aaron Blair scored a hat-trick for Eastleigh, with Dion Rankine also on target against Bostock’s Boston. Lenell John-Lewis (penalty) and Jake Rooney found the back of the net for the Pilgrims.
Ollie’s side are 21st in the table, two points off safety after the first 14 fixtures.
Two defenders remained on the bench over the weekend. Alex Williams was unused as Hibernian lost 2-1 at home to champions Celtic in the SPFL on Sunday, while Carter Pinnington also watched his Solihull Moors group suffer a 2-1 home defeat to Carlisle United in the Enterprise National League.
