Albion captain George Campbell says he's incredibly excited to experience his first Black Country derby this weekend.
The Baggies head to Molineux on Sunday lunchtime for the first league meeting with rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers since 2021 and first league showdown between the clubs where fans have been present since 2012.
Campbell, now into his second season at West Bromwich Albion, insists it's a date he marked on the calendar when the fixtures were released back in June and says the squad are well aware of how much this match means to the supporters.
The USA international said: “I’m incredibly excited; it’s a game everyone marked on their calendars straight away, and everyone wants to be a part of it. We’re all trying to make our mark on the team and want to give the gaffer decisions to make.
“We’ve got a calmness about how we want to play. We’re trying to get into the rhythm of how we want to play, and that’s regardless of who we’re against. We want to go and win.
“The rivalries I’ve played in before will be nothing like this, respectfully, to my time in Montreal, they won’t come close to this one. There’s so much history, and it means so much to everyone; it’s a special game, and everyone wants to play in it.
“It’s going to be very different from anything I’ve experienced in the Championship so far in terms of atmosphere, and we know how much the fans want it. We want it as a team and are keen to leave our mark on the game too.
“We’ve been in the zone across the season so far, and the mentality should be to go there and win. That shows a lot about us as a group.”
