James Morrison | We're going to have to be at our best against West Ham

Baggies boss James Morrison says his side will need to be at their best to compete with West Ham United this weekend.

Albion travel to the London Stadium looking to pick up their third maximum in four games, and bounce back from their draw at Preston North End last time out.

However, the hosts are also looking for a third win in four games, and they too will want to put last weekend's result behind them, having lost 3-2 at home to Southampton. They also haven't won any of their last three in E20 in all competitions.

Of course, the Hammers are still tipped for success this season, and Morrison feels a trip to the London Stadium is "one of the hardest fixtures in the league," so Albion will have to "be at their best" on the day.

He said: “I think it’s probably one of the hardest fixtures in the league, going to West Ham. They’ve got a very good squad and they’ve demonstrated how strong they can be this season.

"The individual players they’ve got and the situation of their sticky patch at home mean there will be a reaction on Saturday, so we’re going to have to be at our best to compete.

“We have to be compact, we have to have energy, defend the box, be good in wide areas and have spells where we’re good with the ball and attack them so we’re not defending for 90 minutes.

“My experiences of playing there are of how passionate the crowd can be, so we have to play on that, whether it’s quieting the crowd or using it as motivation, but I’m expecting a really tough game and we can’t afford to have two or three people not playing at their best."

A general view of the London Stadium
It's set to be a sell-out crowd at the London Stadium.

However, Albion aren't daunted by the challenge posed by West Ham United, and have their own expectations to live up to this season.

Morrison continued: “Because of the club we are, there’s always expectation in this division. There is also expectation based on our start and the level people expect of our performances and the players who have come in. In that sense, expectation is always going to be there - this club demands expectation in this division.

“My drive is always to be successful. The day-to-day of trying to improve the players and trying to be consistent in the way I work is always the same.

“I didn’t think I’d be in this position this time last year, but you quickly realise what a privilege it is. You fall in love with the job. As a person, I want to be successful not just for myself, but for this club I have great ties to."
