Albion post-match chat | James Morrison praises 'relentless' Baggies side

James Morrison is interviewed in the stand at The Hawthorns

James Morrison described his Albion team as “relentless” after watching them come from 2-0 down to beat Blackburn Rovers 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

Andri Gudjohnsen’s double had the visitors two up inside 12 minutes, but Barney Stewart’s first strike for the club halved the deficit heading into the break.

Isaac Price’s penalty drew the Baggies level before Felix Horn Myhre nodded in the winner in the dying stages – Albion’s second comeback triumph in as many matches following Tuesday’s victory at Wrexham.

Speaking on the Baggies’ post-match chat show, Morrison discussed the importance of “momentum”, “positivity” and “belief”.

The boss said: “That’s ten points we’ve won from being behind in matches so far this season. That’s credit to the lads. They keep going until the end and we saw that again earlier this week at Wrexham.

“A big part of this team is that we’re relentless and we can keep working. We don’t get too disappointed and that belief that I keep talking about is definitely there. It’s so important we keep that there moving forward.

“To come from behind and win in consecutive matches is so difficult to do in the Championship.

“For the first 20 minutes, we probably thought we could just turn up having won on Tuesday. We weren’t at the races. We didn’t have enough intensity and we didn’t win enough tackles and we were taking too many touches. You can’t give two goals to teams because you’re then making life so hard for yourself for the rest of the game.

“Momentum is massive in football and I felt as though we were knocking on the door. We had plenty of shots and chances, I think it’s the most we’ve had in one game this season.

“I’ve said this for a number of weeks now – we’ll get better in the final third and we’ll get better at that final bit. The players have a better understanding of the way we’re trying to play and the way we’re trying to attack and I thought we could’ve scored four or five today.

“The subs won us the game at Wrexham, and they’ve played a massive part again today. Credit to all of the lads.

“I still class Tony Mowbray as my gaffer really. It was a special moment to manage against my manager. He had a big influence on my career and I’m sure he’ll be really disappointed to lose the game, but I thought his team caused us a lot of problems.

“We had to come through it today and you can’t beat scenes like that when you’ve come from 2-0 down to win. Everyone is full of positivity and the fans played a massive part getting us over the line. The players were giving everything and the fans were celebrating at the end. We found a way to win together.”
