Albion defender Chris Mepham said his side's draw away at Preston North End feels like a missed opportunity to continue their winning run.
James Morrison's side went to Deepdale hoping to pick up their third consecutive victory, however, they had to settle for a draw in dreadful, stormy conditions. Both goals came late on, with Andrew Hughes putting Preston ahead in the 78th minute before Aune Heggebø equalised in the 82nd.
The Wales international also felt Albion had the best of the chances in the fixture, with Felix Horn Myhre, Rabby Nzingoula and Isaac Price all having great opportunities to score, as well as numerous efforts that were blocked early by defenders.
Speaking at full-time, Mepham explained where improvements needed to be made and praised the travelling support for their efforts while battling the wind and rain.
He said: “I think it’s a missed opportunity, but that’s just reflective of where we’re are at the moment. We’re in a good place and playing some really good football, so I think it shows where we are because we’re coming away from a game like today bitterly disappointed that we haven’t got all three points.
“I think we probably created more than enough opportunities to win the game and we came from behind again, so I don’t think there’s any questioning the resilience in the team.
“We just need to be more clinical in front of goal. Rabby had a chance at the end and we had other moments as well, so on another afternoon, we could’ve won that game comfortably.
“It’s a completely avoidable goal to concede and it’s frustrating because we don’t normally give away soft goals like that from set pieces, so it’s something we need to look at and improve going forward.
“It felt a lot more level in the second half, but I still feel like we had the better moments. At 1-0 down with 10-15 minutes left to go, I think you take the point and move on, but we want to get back to winning ways next week.”
Mepham also referenced the impact the conditions had on the game, which, due to strong winds and a constant downpour, made it a scrappy encounter overall.
“It seemed like a couple of passes were going astray, or the wind was holding the ball up, or the ball would bounce weirdly, but that plays a part for both teams, so it’s no excuse," he explained.
“It was one of those games where it’s hard to get control of things. In another game, we’ll be a lot cleaner with that.
“We massively appreciate the support from the away fans, especially on a day like today. There’s the weather, storms, traffic – loads of things will have played a part for them today, so we’re incredibly grateful.
“I think in those final few minutes when you feel the support behind you - it’s massive and it was another incredible following. Hopefully we can repay them enough times throughout the season."
