James Morrison | We're aiming to deliver another exciting display

James Morrison has tasked his players with producing another exciting and energetic performance this weekend when they take on Millwall at The Hawthorns (ko 3pm).

The Baggies head into the Sky Bet Championship contest with the Lions in good form having already secured four points this week.

Morrison’s men claimed an impressive 3-1 triumph down at West Ham last Saturday before going on to play out a highly entertaining 1-1 draw with Southampton in front of their own supporters on Tuesday night.

The boss is expecting Millwall to put his squad under pressure from “different situations”, but spoke of Albion’s desire to be on the “front foot” in what will be the final fixture before the November international break.

Morrison said: “We’ve had two really positive performances and picked up four important points in the last two games. I felt as though it was really important to take the ball and try and implement on our own style in both fixtures.

“This league is all about consistency. When you get a good result away from home, it’s so important to try and follow that up with a positive result at home. If you can do that for the majority of times, it can really put you in a good position.

“The football and the energy under the lights on Tuesday night in that first half was great. We wanted to get the fans up off their seats after they all had a long day at work. We want to be exciting and on the front foot at home, and that’s what I’ll be telling the players before Millwall.

“I expressed my feelings to the players in terms of having that freedom. I know they’re good players and we work a lot on the training pitch in regards to certain situations, but I also give them freedom. Again, it’s about consistency and having that ability to perform again and again and again.

“I know from previous experience that having that freedom and confidence from a manager gives players that extra lift.

“Millwall are a very competitive team. I was watching their game against Blues and it wasn’t as one-sided as the result would suggest – they were in the game for the 90 minutes.

“You always know you’re in for a game with Alex Neil’s teams, especially with Millwall. You know you’ll be under pressure in different situations. It won’t be an easy game. It’s a top-half fixture and we’re up against a team who are probably hurting from their last result. They’ll be coming to The Hawthorns to put a performance on and give us challenges that we’ve got to be ready for.

“It’s a good game for us. We know we’ll be in a game so we’re going to have to be right up for it once again. We’re at home so we want to be on the front foot and impose ourselves. We know we’ll have to deal with their challenges and stand tall to them.

“We’re going to need everyone and we’re going to need the crowd to support us again as it’s the third game in the week. The crowd will come with us and they’ll stay patient, but we need to give them that energy and put on a performance.

“We’re going to have to be good defensively and then let our attacking play come out. That’s what’s been pleasing in the last two games – that defensive work has allowed us to play our football.”

Morrison revealed captain George Campbell will miss Saturday's showdown through injury when speaking to members of the media at The Fitlife Foods Performance Centre on Friday morning.

The boss did, however, have more positive news regarding the availability of winger Kareem Tunde.

He added: “Unfortunately George picked up a groin injury against Southampton and we expect him to be out for between ten to 12 days. It's not ideal, but it could've been worse.

“Hopefully it'll just be one game that he misses.

“Kareem Tunde will be available for selection and everyone else who has featured recently is fine.”
