James Morrison | Millwall win perfect way to end positive week

James Morrison is interviewed after WBA's win against Millwall

James Morrison was delighted to see Albion score three goals and pick up three points at the end of a three-game week in the Sky Bet Championship.

All three strikes in Saturday's 3-0 triumph over Millwall came in the second 45, with Isaac Price, Jayson Molumby and Felix Horn Myhre all beating Max Crocombe in front of the Smethwick End.

The victory means Morrison's men have collected seven points from the trio of fixtures against West Ham United, Southampton and the Lions - a return which leaves them just one point off the second-tier summit heading into the last international break of 2026.

The boss says the energy in the second period won his team the game and was adamant he can't ask for anymore from the players.

He said: “It’s always positive to win and score three goals, especially in a three-game week.

“It’s sort of a bit of an unexpected performance when you take into consideration it’s the third game of the week. You never really know what it’s going to be like, especially coming into it having played the opposition we’ve played in the last two and what that can take out of you. The lads just keep going and I can’t ask for anymore from them.

“I thought the first half was okay, but we just lacked that little bit of composure and we had a couple of structural issues, but we managed to sort that out at half time. We kept going and then in the second half we witnessed the lads running back, tackling and giving their all.

“The energy levels probably won us the game, and the subs played a massive part in that.

“It’s been a good test over the last week to see where we’d be against these three teams. We’ve come out of those tests with flying colours. We’ve been dominant in most of the games and that’s really pleasing and it’s given us plenty of confidence.

James Morrison on the side of the pitch against Millwall

“We had a lot of the ball in the first half and we knew what Millwall wanted to do in terms of playing on the counter and delivering plenty of long balls. We didn’t have any composure in the final third where we could stay there. We moved the ball around nicely, but we just lacked that final bit. We got to grips with that over the break and then our energy came out on top.

“Isaac Price got one and created another today and his form has been massive for us. He’s such an important player for us, not just because of what he does at the top end of the pitch but also because of what he does for the team with his energy and his defensive work. He’s getting his rewards and he’s showing his quality. I asked him to be consistent before the season started and he’s proving to me that he wants to be the main man.

“The clean sheet for us today is massive for the back line who worked tremendously hard with the long balls coming into the box. I thought they were all fantastic and Max made the save at the end. When he’s called upon he’s always there. We have to keep going and keep believing, but also keep working hard and keep feeding off the energy.

“We’re working hard, we’re competing for the football club and we’re playing well. I want people to come here and get excited and support the team. There will be times we need the fans to stick with us and inspire us. It’s a collective effort.”
