The Albion Foundation were delighted to surprise Andy Johnson with induction into The Albion Foundation Hall of Fame at the recent Pukka Night with Ron Atkinson and Friends, recognising his outstanding dedication, fundraising efforts, and unwavering support of the charity over recent years. Inspired by the Hall of Fame tradition of celebrating individuals who have made a lasting impact on the Foundation and the communities it serves, Andy's induction was a fitting tribute to a remarkable legacy of commitment and generosity.
Presented with the award in front of 280 attendees, club legends Tony 'Bomber' Brown, Brendon Batson and Ally Robertson, as well as special guest Ron Atkinson, the induction came as a complete surprise to Andy, who has become one of The Albion Foundation's most valued ambassadors. His contribution has extended far beyond attending events, with Andy consistently going above and beyond to help deliver the Foundation's mission of changing lives through sport, education and community programmes.
Speaking after receiving the award, Andy was quick to praise the people who make The Albion Foundation's work possible.
"You wouldn't want to meet a better bunch of people than the guys who give up their time, volunteer any day, any time, whatever the task. They're just incredible people. And they're led by Rob Lake who, when we did the walk, stepped every path, every single step of that walk. You've got Wardy [Jonanthan Ward], who paddled the Channel with us, and he paddled every single stroke of that. They lead by example, and it's easy to follow. And for me, it's an honour to be part of that. So yeah, thank you very much. Cheers."
Over the past four years, Andy has become one of The Albion Foundation's most dedicated supporters, playing a key role in a number of the charity's flagship fundraising events. From hosting memorable evenings featuring sporting personalities and special guests, to helping deliver the ever-popular Dinner with a Difference and Pukka Night events, his enthusiasm, energy and ability to bring people together have helped generate vital funds to support the Foundation's programmes across Sandwell and the surrounding areas.
However, Andy's influence has not been limited to fundraising events alone. He has also taken on a series of extraordinary personal challenges on behalf of the Foundation, demonstrating a level of determination that few can match.
One of his most memorable achievements came through the Blind Walk, an inspirational fundraising challenge that saw Andy travel from Wembley Stadium back to The Hawthorns while visually impaired, raising both awareness and vital funds along the journey. The challenge captured the imagination of supporters and highlighted his willingness to push himself far beyond his comfort zone for a cause he cares deeply about.
More recently, Andy completed another incredible feat by kayaking across the English Channel, once again raising funds and awareness for The Albion Foundation. The challenge required months of preparation, determination and resilience, further showcasing the selflessness and perseverance that have become synonymous with his contribution to the charity.
Those who know Andy understand that his fundraising achievements only tell part of the story. His passion for helping others, willingness to volunteer his time and genuine belief in The Foundation's mission have made him a valued friend of the organisation. Alongside his fundraising endeavours, Andy has been a committed supporter of the Foundation's Hawthorns Hub sessions, regularly spending time with participants and helping to create a welcoming and inclusive environment where people can connect, build friendships and improve their wellbeing. His encouragement and guidance have had a lasting impact on many of those involved, reflecting his desire to give back to the local community.
Whether on stage hosting an event, encouraging participants during a challenge, supporting Hawthorns Hub members, or championing the Foundation's initiatives across the region, Andy's influence has been felt by countless people.
