Albion Powerchair finish fourth at Club World Cup

Bates and Zegarelli compete for possession.

Albion Powerchair were condemned to a fourth-place finish at the FIPFA Club World Cup by Argentinian side Tigres de Pacheco.

The Baggies lost to a single strike scored by Valentino Zegarelli in Paris.

Albion are next in action at St George’s Park for the EE Disability FA Cup on Sunday afternoon, which is live on TNT Sports.

Lucas Christer.

Brad Bates had the best opportunity prior to the first-half water break, his trademark 180 turn finish didn’t quite go the way he planned, as the ball missed the right-side of his front bumper.

Former Baggie Zegarelli, now back performing in his homeland, almost struck immediately after – though Lucas Christer scaled the goal line well to deflect away.

The Argentinian soon made his mark on proceedings, pouncing on a set-piece at the back post, giving Tigres a huge helping hand towards a podium finish.

Bates almost had the opportunity to level the scoring, Matt Gilbert sent an inviting cross towards the onrushing Albion forward, who was left disappointed as he missed the ball by a small margin.

Substitute Ollie Rock could’ve got his side back into the game, but saw his shot beaten away by goalkeeper Khaleb Manzur, before a stunning passing move saw Rock spin just wide of the target moments later.

Albion had a host of late chances, but couldn’t make their Argentinian counterparts pay, leaving them to bounce back in the EE Disability FA Cup final on Sunday – read more about that clash HERE.

Albion: Gordon (c), Christer, Inel, Rock, Bates, Bolt, Gilbert.
