A sell-out crowd of 280 Albion supporters enjoyed a memorable trip down memory lane at the recent Pukka Night with Ron Atkinson and Friends, an evening packed with laughter, stories and tributes to some of the greatest figures in West Bromwich Albion history.
The event, expertly hosted by former Albion midfielder Andy Johnson and compered by John Homer, brought together legendary former manager Ron Atkinson and three true Baggies greats in Brendon Batson, Ally Robertson and Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown. Supporters arrived with treasured biographies, books, photographs and memorabilia, eager to secure signatures from some of the greatest names ever associated with Albion.
Throughout the evening, ‘Big Ron’ entertained the audience with his trademark charm and wit, alongside Brendon Batson, sharing stories from their time at The Hawthorns and reflecting on the exciting side Atkinson built during the late 1970s and early 1980s. He offered a unique insight into the dressing room culture, memorable matches and colourful characters who helped shape one of the club’s most iconic eras.
Joining him on stage were three players who were instrumental in Albion’s success during that period. Brendon Batson reflected on his experiences as part of the legendary Three Degrees side and spoke passionately about football’s progress both on and off the pitch. His stories highlighted the strong bond that existed within the squad and the lasting impact that team continues to have on the game today.
Former captain Ally Robertson also shared memories from his remarkable Albion career. A commanding presence in defence for more than 600 appearances, Robertson recalled some of the club’s biggest occasions and provided supporters with an entertaining glimpse into life in an Albion dressing room during one of the club’s most successful periods.
Tony ‘Bomber’ Brown, Albion’s record appearance maker and all-time leading goalscorer, was also in fine form. His recollections from a career spanning two decades prompted plenty of laughter from the audience, while also reminding supporters why he remains one of the most respected figures in the club’s history.
The evening also provided a special moment at half-time when host Andy Johnson was inducted into The Albion Foundation Hall of Fame. The announcement was met with warm applause from the packed room as guests paid tribute to Johnson’s outstanding contribution to both the club and the local community. Remarkably, for perhaps the first time in his life, Andy was left speechless.
Guests also enjoyed a raffle and auction led by Bob Marley, with a range of sought-after Albion memorabilia and prizes up for grabs, ensuring plenty of enthusiastic participation throughout the evening.
