There were opportunities for both sides across a lively encounter at The Hawthorns, but neither team could find the target.

The Baggies had the better opportunities throughout the opening phases of a sunny afternoon in B71. Nat Phillips glanced Danny Imray’s cross over the bar, before Ousmane Diakité took aim from range to sting the gloves of Christian Walton.

Forward Daryl Dike was keen to continue his scoring streak when he nudged Cedric Kipré off the ball inside the penalty area, but he could only volley at the legs of the onrushing visiting goalkeeper.

The Tractor Boys would soon create something of their own, though, as Iván Azon beat Max O’Leary to the ball, but sent his follow-up effort away from danger.

Aune Heggebø was next to try his luck for the hosts. He latched onto Azor Matusiwa’s loose clearance, turned to shoot first time, and drilled a shot agonisingly wide - leaving the scores level at halfway.

And the Norwegian was at it again in the second period, this time from a set-piece - swivelling to flick a clever header just outside of the post.

His strike partner Dike forced Walton into an acrobatic save in the 50th minute, arguably his best piece of goalkeeping that afternoon. The American arrowed an effort which appeared destined for the top corner, though the ‘keeper was equal to it and managed to tip away.

Jayson Molumby was hauled down in the penalty area by Darnell Furlong moments later, but the referee remained unmoved. Visiting defender, Kipré, then had the ball in the net for Ipswich, only to see the linesman poised to wave the offside flag.

Jack Clarke also fired wide for the visitors, however, the Baggies remained firm and resolute in their stance, as they picked up the all-important point to secure their status in the Sky Bet Championship for 2026/27.
