100,000 food parcels delivered by The Albion Foundation

The Albion Foundation has now delivered a staggering 100,000 food parcels since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic back in March 2020.

It has taken a monumental effort to hit the significant milestone, with Albion’s official charity reinventing itself to swap its normal face-to-face delivery to a co-ordinated and targeted approach to support the community through a difficult period.

The Foundation worked closely with Sandwell Council in the early months to distribute food parcels to those shielding, isolated and most in need. This progressed to working with their partner schools, who identified specific families in need of support.

During the summer, the Foundation used the East Stand concourse to set up their own food distribution hub and have been delivering parcels throughout the year as restrictions eased. As the latest lockdown came in to place the hub increased production to meet the need.

Foundation Director, Rob Lake, has taken pride in leading the charity's response to the pandemic.

“I am very proud of what we have done to support the local response to the Pandemic,” he said.

“The staff have been amazing in how they have thrown themselves in to the operations of packing and distributing the food week in and week out, especially through the difficult winter months.

“We know the parcels have gone to those that need them the most. This would not have been possible without the club or our partners; the National Lottery, Barclays, Fair Share, Sandwell Council, partner schools, Community Sync and the many West Brom fans who have kindly donated to this cause.”
