Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still has praised the “tremendous” effort from her side, as they picked up a late win on the road against Halifax.
A 93rd-minute winner from Monique Robinson ended a run of consecutive away defeats and ensured a valuable three points for the Baggies.
Boss Hodgetts-Still was pleased to see the reaction as they “set the standards” with a battling showing on their travels in Yorkshire.
She said: “I’m really happy with that performance. The win was deserved and it was a much-improved showing compared to the last few weeks.
“It was needed within the squad, but I thought the performance from the girls and the effort was tremendous today. You saw what it meant to the players and staff, so we’re really happy with the win and three points.
“I felt we deserved it today. From minute one, the football we played was brilliant at times, we controlled the game.
“We created some great moments but couldn’t quite finish them. There was some good defending and goalkeeping from Halifax, but we’ve got to credit the girls today, they didn’t give up, right until the very end and scored late on - we hope to build on this going into next week.
“Standards-wise, our performance against Stoke wasn’t great and we set those standards with each other in the changing room earlier today. I think they got that performance from each other.
“The effort and commitment put into each week, the match on Sunday is all that matters - I’m really happy we didn’t give up to score that late goal. You saw how much it meant to everyone and we’re delighted with how today went.”
Defender Zoe Creaney enjoyed the physical battle at Myra Shay on Sunday, and after frank conversations following defeats to Stoke City and Burnley - she was pleased to see her team pull through with a “deserved” winner.
Zoe said: “Before the game we said to each other that we couldn’t have a performance like the Stoke one. We had to step up a lot, we were really good and created a lot, we couldn’t ask for better in terms of that.
“To get that goal at the end of the game, the girls fully deserved it.
“We’ve had a tough week, we’ve been reflecting on ourselves, there were no excuses this week and I think it helped today. It showed, Burnley and Stoke were tough games.
“Halifax put up a great fight today but we deserved it. We came out on top and it’s great to get back to winning ways, we’ve got a great couple of games to step up on that and pick up some more points.
“That’s my type of game, they like to play direct football - that’s my game to a tee. Some of the challenges were questionable, but I thought the girls battled really well.
“It’s something we don’t do as much, we haven’t shown it enough, but we were going in just as hard, we got back up when we were down. That’s exactly the type of fight we need to show week on week.
“I didn’t know there was only a minute to go. I was just so happy, when you have a performance like that and things come out on the pitch - to get that goal at the end when we haven’t had goals for a couple of games - it’s really important.
“You can see the reaction from everyone, it’s great for morale, and we’re all really happy with today.”
