Albion Women were held to a draw by Portsmouth in an entertaining 60-minute pre-season test on Sunday afternoon.

Charlie Fripp’s side were rocked back by a visiting strike within two minutes of kick-off, but fought back through an own goal and Jess Collyer’s first goal in navy-blue-and-white.

The hosts continued to push for further opportunities, though Pompey levelled the game with a free-kick just 10 minutes from time.

Albion have one final test before beginning their FAWNL Northern Premier campaign, and host Wolves in a behind closed doors friendly on Thursday.

The Baggies took an early dent to their positive ambitions, as a drilled Portsmouth effort found the inside of Charlotte Clarke’s post for the opener.

But the hosts were keen to avenge the early deficit, and came close through Riya Mannu, before a loose Pompey passback looped over the head of the visiting ‘keeper to level the scores.

Fripp’s side continued in their attempts to turn the scoreline around as Rhianne Oakley saw a well-struck half-volley tipped over.

Though it was her forward counterpart Collyer who would give Albion their lead. The 21-year-old lashed a powerful strike into the roof of the net to make it 2-1 by halfway.

The visitors levelled up the tie with just moments left to play, as a free-kick snuck past the hosts’ wall and into the bottom corner to equalise.
