Charlie Fripp & Ella Haughey | We dominated Norton & Stockton Ancients FAWNL Cup tie

Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp insists his players “dominated” their FAWNL Cup win over Norton & Stockton Ancients on Sunday.

Ella Haughey’s sumptuous 38th-minute effort gave the Baggies the half-time lead. Her goal was quickly followed by Milly Round’s first Albion goal, after she met a header in the six-yard box.

Left-back Haughey was on the scoresheet yet again to give Fripp’s side a 3-0 lead with a powerful shot into the top corner, which was ultimately enough to put their name in the hat for the next round.

Fripp said: “We knew we were going to come here and have a lot of the ball and possession. Over the week we’ve been working on how to beat low blocks, and being patient on the ball.

“I thought they did that really well today. The front line gave us lots of different movements and lots of different things in behind for us to go and control the ball with.

“The girls dominated, and it was a good performance to see. The girls are a big group together, and I know they’ve been through a lot over the last week. It’s good for Ella too, to be on the scoresheet.

“She knows she does a lot for the team that people probably don’t realise or see in terms of assists and helping the team out.”

After seeing her teammate, Rhianne Oakley, suffer a serious-looking injury in Wednesday’s win over Boldmere St Michaels, brace-scorer Haughey was keen to stress the group’s ability to ‘stick together’ during tough times.

She said: “It’s been a long week for everyone here, but the girls all stuck together. When you come in and do it, we had to do this one for Rhi, and everyone’s buzzing.

“We all know how hard it’s going to be for her, so everyone’s going to be behind her and everyone’s supporting her so far. We know she can get through it.

“The first goal one, to be fair, I didn’t realise how well I hit it. It just came to me, and I thought, ‘go on then’, and hit it into the top corner. I was buzzing, to be fair.

“We’re going to try and do one better, get to the FAWNL Cup final and then hopefully win it, but we’ll just take every game as it comes.”
