Charlie Fripp on Boldmere St Michaels win | Some things are bigger than football

Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp believes his side’s win over Boldmere St Michaels was a “great team performance,” but also says “some things are bigger than football.”

A hat-trick from Riya Mannu, along with a perfectly placed free-kick from Monique Robinson, secured a 4-1 win at the Alexander Stadium on Wednesday night.

Despite picking up the points, the night was overshadowed by a serious-looking injury to Rhianne Oakley, with Fripp quick to send the forward his best wishes.

He said: “Rhi’s a key part of the group, and it’s terrible what happened. It’s not nice for any person, or for the team, to endure, and I know the girls will be around her and supporting her. The medical team will be there too, and we’ll all look after her.

“It was a great time performance; we put Boldmere to the sword, and we did what we needed to do in terms of the game and getting the three points we needed.

“Sunday’s another challenge, and we’ll be ready for it; we’ll be knowing what’s ahead, and the girls will have something to play for now, and we know they’ll have another performance ready for that one.

“Some things are bigger than football, and even though we got the win, we’re all hurting right now.”
