Charlie Fripp & Liv Rabjohn | Women’s FA Cup exit “hurts”

Albion Women Interim Head Coach Charlie Fripp admits Sunday’s Women’s FA Cup defeat to Notts County “hurts.”

The Baggies were beaten for the first time in 11 matches across all competitions, as a single visiting penalty was the difference between the two teams.

Defeat for the first time since August means Fripp’s team exit the FA Cup at the first-round stage, with a quick turnaround as they return to their league endeavours in midweek against Boldmere St Michaels.

Taylor Reynolds in action.

He said: “Notts County came with a game plan, and they’ve executed it really well. Our decision-making in and around the final third wasn’t at its best, and we had a lack of tempo, complacency even set in.

“They’ve caught us on the break, and fair play to them, we couldn’t break them down today. It’s really frustrating, especially given the showings we’ve put in over the last few weeks; it hurts us today, and it’s hurting the group.

“It’s one of those where you have to dust yourselves off and go again, we’ve got Boldmere St Michaels in midweek to do just that.”

Liv Rabjohn

Captain Liv Rabjohn believes it’s “important to reflect” on their disappointment at the hands of the Magpies, and move back into FAWNL Northern Premier action on a positive note on Wednesday.

She said: “It hurts, we’ve had a really positive run. They’ve come and made it very hard for us today, and we haven’t been able to break them down.

“Everyone’s disappointed; we’ve had a really good run. We’ve not done anything to the best of our abilities today, and it’s important now to reflect and bounce back. How we do that will show how good we are, and it’s about how we get ourselves back from it.

“It’s happened now, so we’ll review it, look at what went wrong. All great teams have setbacks, and it’s about how you bounce back from there.”
