Halifax 0-1 Albion Women

Albion Women celebrating.

Albion Women left it late to beat Halifax at the Myra Shay in the FAWNL Northern Premier on Sunday afternoon.

Monique Robinson’s 93rd-minute winner was the difference between the two sides in a competitive encounter.

Siobhan Hodgetts-Still made two changes to the side that were beaten by Stoke City in their last encounter. Marli Rhodes and Lavarna Johnson came into the side for the clash in Yorkshire.

The Baggies had an early opportunity as Riya Mannu poked goalwards at close range, only to see the strike deflected just wide, before the hosts struck the crossbar as they threatened from a set-piece situation.

Forward Rhodes looked to cause trouble for Eagles goalkeeper Maddie Crosbie, but arrowed her venomous effort marginally wide of the target - leaving the game goalless at the break.

Shot-stopper Johnson was called into action in the first event of the second period, as she got down low to deny Phoebe Hollin after she won the ball high up the pitch.

Robinson almost helped her side get the advantage when she danced around the Halifax defence and squared to substitute Simran Jhamat, who couldn’t find the target with the goal at her mercy.

But the creative midfielder would have the telling touch on Sunday’s clash, as she latched onto a loose ball in the penalty area to slam home what would turn out to be the winner in the third minute of additional time - sparking pandemonium in the Albion ranks.

Albion: Johnson, Reynolds, Creaney, Green, Haughey; Watkins, Rabjohn (Orthodoxou 67’); Mannu, Robinson, Oakley; Rhodes (Jhamat 67’).
