Albion Women Manager Siobhan Hodgetts-Still says Sunday’s 6-0 win over Sporting Khalsa at The Hawthorns gave her an “amazing feeling.”
The Baggies steamed to victory in-front of a buoyant crowd in B71, with Monique Robinson (2), Lucy Day (2), Fran Orthodoxou and an own goal the difference between the two FAWNL Northern Premier rivals.
Hodgetts-Still, a childhood fan of the club, says they can take “confidence” from their six-goal haul at the Shrine.
She said: “We’re so pleased with that win. Six goals is something we’ve been missing in our game, so to put in that performance and score six in-front of the fans is an amazing feeling.
“It was a convincing win. There were some really good goals and we dominated the game.
“It was really good to get three points at The Hawthorns. It could’ve been more in terms of the scoreline, their ‘keeper made some really good saves.
“Whether it was the decision or weight of pass in those moments, we could’ve had a few more. We’ll certainly take the six and take that confidence back into another league fixture next week.
“It’s always nice to play here, like I said I’m a big Baggies fan so it’s always amazing. I was delighted for Izzy (Green) who’s a massive fan, she got to lead the team out today and I know she was proud to do that.
“I hope all of the fans enjoyed it, it was a great performance and we can’t wait to see as many supporters as possible in the weeks to come.”
Dual-registered Birmingham City youngster Day has a habit of scoring on her various debuts, and against Sporting Khalsa. The 18-year-old notched on her first outing in navy-blue-and-white, and also twice on her Hawthorns bow on Sunday - despite being in an unfamiliar midfield position - she described the game as “surreal.”
She said: “It feels surreal at the moment. I don’t think my debut at The Hawthorns could’ve gone any better.
“Stepping into midfield and playing in a different position, I really enjoyed it. To get six goals and a clean sheet as a team, it couldn’t have gone much better.
“It’s going amazingly here. The girls really put a shift in today, we came and showed what we can do - we’ve been missing the final product and today we proved that we can do it - we need to take that into next week.
“I’ve played in midfield a while ago, so I had a bit of a crash-course in midfield at training. I enjoyed the attacking side of it and being a bit more carefree knowing that there are people behind me who can defend should I need them.
“We need to build on this and the confidence we’ve gained. We hope to get a result too, you can really feel the fans in the stadium. You can hear the cheering, the singing and it spurs you on - it’s good to see.”
