Harry Whitwell has signed a new two-and-a-half-year contract, committing his future to the Albion until the summer of 2029.
The academy graduate has caught the eye for James Morrison’s team this season, scoring two goals and claiming three assists from seven appearances across all competitions.
After joining the Baggies as an 11-year-old, Harry - now 20 - has risen through the ranks and ticked off various milestones along the way.
He won the club’s prestigious Academy Player of the Year award towards the end of an impressive 2022/23 campaign with the U21 team - before making his debut in January 2024 during Albion’s FA Cup win over Aldershot.
A five-month loan at Forest Green Rovers last season helped him taste senior football on a consistent basis for the first time - and set him up to breakthrough this term.
Harry said: “I’m over the moon to sign my new contract. There’s been a lot of hard work to get to this point, so to get it over the line and commit my future to the club makes me very happy.
“West Bromwich Albion means so much to me. I’ve seen the team evolve when I’ve been watching from afar, so being part of the first team now is a dream come true.
“I loved being around the academy because you get the feeling of what the club is all about, and in the last few months, my development has come a long way. I had the loan to Forest Green Rovers last year which really helped me, and I wanted to hit the ground running when I came back for pre-season.
“I didn’t have much Championship experience before this season, but thanks to the gaffer and his coaching team, I’ve taken a lot of steps forward in my development.
“I’m really excited for the next stage of my career. Knowing I’m here for the long term makes me feel over the moon and I can’t wait to see how far this team can go.
“Now I've made that step up to the first team where you interact more with fans, you get to see just how much it means to them, too. I’m really excited for the future because we're heading in the right direction. We’ve started the season really well and long may it continue.”
