West Bromwich Albion face Charlton Athletic in the Sky Bet Championship at The Hawthorns on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm).

The Baggies will be hoping for an improved performance and result against the Londoners having lost 2-0 at home to Coventry City on Saturday.

Visitors Charlton, who are six points ahead of Eric Ramsay's team, picked up a hard-fought 1-1 draw at Southampton over the weekend.

The Addicks claimed a narrow 1-0 win in the reverse fixture back in early November. Sonny Carey scored the only goal deep into stoppage time at the end of the second period.

WBA Matchday Home 2526

The opposition

Charlton Athletic head to The Hawthorns hoping to extend the gap between themselves and the bottom three.

Last season's Sky Bet League One play-off winners, who secured a point down on the south coast at Southampton on Saturday, are seven points clear of trouble with 13 matches remaining.

The Londoners will arrive in the West Midlands having lost just one of their last five games, a 3-1 defeat at The Valley against Portsmouth. Tuesday's guests have won two (Leicester City & Stoke City) and drawn two (QPR & Southampton) in that five-match sequence.

Away from home, the Addicks have won three, drawn six and lost eight of their 17 league fixtures in 2025/26. They've collected 15 of their 40 points on their travels, but four of those have been in their last two encounters at Leicester City and Southampton respectively.

Nathan Jones, a 52-year-old Welshman, is their boss and has been since February 2024. The former Luton Town, Stoke City and Southampton gaffer recently clocked up over a century of games in charge of Charlton. He'll be leading the club for the 110th time at The Hawthorns and has a record of 47 wins, 31 draws and 31 defeats during his two years there.

Memorable meeting

Albion secured Division One safety on the final day of the 1999/00 season by beating Tuesday's guests 2-0 at The Hawthorns.

Richard Sneekes scored the first in the middle of the second period before Bob Taylor made it two just five minutes later.

Check out the highlights below.

Recent record on home soil against the Addicks

Albion 2-2 Charlton Athletic, October 2019

The contest ended level the last time the two teams went head-to-head at The Hawthorns in the 2019/20 campaign. Matty Phillips' tenth-minute strike put the home team 1-0 up at the break, but Macauley Bonne equalised on the hour for the Addicks. Baggies defender Nathan Ferguson was dismissed seven minutes later, however, Hal Robson-Kanu's fine finish restored Albion's lead. Slaven Bilic's ten men couldn't hang on, mind. Josh Cullen levelled matters in the final moments from the penalty spot. Watch the highlights below.

Albion (p) 2-2 Charlton Athletic, January 2008

The Baggies secured a spot in the fourth round of the FA Cup thanks to a victory over the Addicks on penalties following a 2-2 draw in normal time. Efforts from Roman Bednar and James Morrison handed Albion a healthy advantage heading into the last 26 minutes, but Charlton hit back and forced extra time and spot-kicks courtesy of goals from Darren Ambrose and Chris Dickson. Bednar confidently stepped up to bag the winning penalty after Dean Kiely had saved from Zheng Zhi, meaning the hosts won the shootout 4-3.

Albion 4-2 Charlton Athletic, December 2007

The hosts produced an impressive showing to claim an exciting triumph at home to Charlton ten days before Christmas in 2007. Chris Iwelumo was first on the scoresheet for the visitors, but the Baggies turned the game around thanks to goals from Roman Bednar and Zoltan Gera. Charlton equalised with just over 15 to go through Izale McLeod, only for Albion to then go on to score twice in the final ten minutes. Gera helped himself to a second to make it 3-2 before Kevin Phillips sealed the points with a fourth.

Pre-match stats

Albion and the Addicks will be meeting for the 64th time on Tuesday night. The head-to-head record is extremely tight, with the Baggies claiming 21 wins compared to Charlton's 22. There have also been 20 draws.

The Baggies are three matches unbeaten at home to Charlton (W1, D2). Despite not winning any of those three games, the Addicks scored two goals in all three encounters. Their last triumph at The Hawthorns came in September 2005 when they won 2-1 in a Premier League fixture.

The away team have been triumphant in just one of the last nine fixtures between Albion and the Addicks - a 1-0 win for the Baggies at The Valley in the FA Cup in January 2020.

Only Millwall (880) have won more aerial duels than Charlton (871) in the second tier so far this season.

Nathan Jones is taking on West Bromwich Albion for the seventh time in his career as a manager. He's won two, drawn one and lost three of the previous six fixtures against the Baggies.
