West Bromwich Albion welcome recently-relegated Burnley to The Hawthorns for the first home fixture of the 2026/27 season on Sunday lunchtime (ko midday).
The Baggies will be on the hunt for a third straight triumph at the start of the new term, having won 4-1 at Rotherham United in the first round of the Carabao Cup before going on to defeat Norwich City 2-1 at Carrow Road on matchday one in the second tier last Saturday.
Visitors Burnley needed penalties to overcome Sky Bet League One outfit Notts County in the opening round of the Carabao Cup, but fought back gallantly to claim a point against West Ham United at Turf Moor in the first league game - an encounter they were 2-0 down in with just seven minutes of normal time remaining.
The clash in the West Midlands will be the first head-to-head battle between the Baggies and Burnley since March 2025 when the teams drew 1-1 up in Lancashire.

The visitors
Burnley's target for 2026/27 is simple - return to the Premier League at the first time of asking following their relegation last season.
The Clarets have won promotion to the top flight in all of their last four campaigns in the Sky Bet Championship, securing the title in 2015/16 and 2022/23, as well as finishing the 2013/14 and 2024/25 terms as runners-up.
Sunday's visitors will be hoping for the same outcome this time around and kicked the term off as one of the favourites to win the division. Their second-tier season began with a 2-2 home draw on Sunday against another team fancied for promotion, West Ham United - a game they found themselves two goals down in with just over five minutes remaining.
Zian Flemming's late double helped rescue a deserved point and, in the process, extended the Clarets' long unbeaten run in the Championship to 34 games. On the flip side, that draw pushed their winless run (excluding penalty shootouts) to 15 matches, with their last triumph coming at Crystal Palace in the top flight in February.
Nicky Hayen, a 46-year-old Belgian, is Burnley's boss. He was appointed in early July, replacing Scott Parker, having had previous managerial experience with Club Brugge and Genk in his homeland. He won the Jupiler League title in 2023/24 with Club Brugge and helped them reach the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League.
He also had a spell in charge of Haverfordwest County A.F.C. in the Cymru Premier between 2021 and 2022 - becoming the first Belgian manager to work in the Welsh top division - and will be determined to bring success to the Turf Moor team.

Classic clash
Boss James Morrison was one of the scorers as the Baggies cruised to a 4-0 win over the Clarets at The Hawthorns in the Premier League in November 2016.
The gaffer scored the second goal of the night, following on from Matt Phillips' earlier strike. Darren Fletcher and Salomon Rondon were also on target for Tony Pulis' team in that particular encounter.

Did you know...?
There have been five draws in the last six meetings between the two clubs.
The Baggies will be determined to halt the Clarets' run of seven games unbeaten in this particular showdown (W2, D5). Albion's last win in this fixture was a 1-0 triumph at Turf Moor in the Premier League in August 2017. Hal Robson-Kanu scored the only goal that day.
James Morrison will be hoping to extend his unbeaten run at The Hawthorns as both interim and head coach of the Albion to eight games. He's won three and drawn four of his seven previous matches in charge there.
The Clarets haven't won any of their last six away games. Their most recent triumph on their travels came back in the middle of February when they won 3-2 at Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
Burnley's 0-0 draw at The Hawthorns in November 2024 kicked off their current unbeaten run of 34 Sky Bet Championship matches. Their last defeat in the second tier came in the fixture before the one with the Albion, when they lost 1-0 at Millwall in November 2024.
