West Bromwich Albion continue their Carabao Cup journey with a trip to face Premier League Newcastle United at St. James' Park on Wednesday night (ko 7.45pm).
The Baggies secured their place in the second round by defeating Rotherham United 4-1 at the AESSEAL New York Stadium. They've since followed that victory up with further triumphs over Norwich City and Burnley in the Sky Bet Championship and head up north hoping to maintain their perfect start to the 2026/27 season.
Newcastle kicked off their top-flight campaign on home soil against Liverpool on Sunday afternoon and looked set to be securing all three points until a last-gasp Dominik Szoboszlai penalty rescued a 2-2 draw for Liverpool.
Albion's most recent trip to face the Magpies was in December 2020, when they fell to a 2-1 defeat in the Premier League. Miguel Almirón and Dwight Gale netted either side of a Darnell Furlong strike that particular afternoon.

Newcastle United will be targeting another impressive run in the Carabao Cup in 2026/27 having won the tournament, finished as runners-up, reached the semi-final and made it through to the quarter-final in the last four years.
Their 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Wembley in the 2025 final will still be fresh in the minds of those who live and breathe black-and-white, and the Magpies will be determined to lift further trophies in the coming years.

It looked as though they'd be picking up a welcome victory on the opening day, but the visitors snatched a late point when Hungary superstar Dominik Szoboszlai converted a spot-kick in the dying moments - a strike which made it 2-2.
It's been a summer of change at St. James' Park after former head coach Eddie Howe departed at the end of July. This followed the first three of their pre-season fixtures, and the search for a replacement saw German Matthias Jaissle appointed less than a week later.
Jaissle, who will have been in post for exactly three weeks when his side host the Baggies, joins after successful stints at both Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli in the past five years. With Austrian outfit Salzburg, he won the domestic double in his first season and reached the UEFA Champions League knockout stages for the first time in the club's history.
In Saudi Arabia, the 38-year-old won back-to-back AFC Champions League titles and will now be looking to bring success to Tyneside.

Classic clash
Albion secured a 3-2 win at St. James' Park in the Premier League four days before Christmas in 2011.
Peter Odemwingie opened the scoring and Gareth McAuley made it 2-1 after Demba Ba had equalised earlier in the first half.
Ba once again pulled his side level as the game approached the closing stages, but Paul Scharner converted just minutes later to restore the advantage.

Wednesday's clash is the third meeting between the two teams in the League Cup and the third at St. James' Park. Albion have won both, securing a 1-0 0 triumph in 1989 and a 2-1 success after extra-time in October 2003.
Newcastle won the Carabao Cup in 2025, beating Liverpool 2-1 at Wembley. The Magpies have enjoyed eye-catching runs in the competition in recent years, finishing as runners-up in 2023, reaching the quarter-final in 2024, lifting the trophy in 2025 and making the semi-final in 2026.
The Baggies' last win against Newcastle came in April 2018 when Matt Phillips' strike sealed three Premier League points. United have since gone three games unbeaten against Albion (W2, D1).
James Morrison's team have an opportunity to secure a third consecutive away win following triumphs over Rotherham United and Norwich City earlier in August. The Magpies' last defeat to a team in a lower division in the Carabao Cup came in December 2020 when they suffered a 1-0 reverse at then-Championship outfit Brentford in the quarter-final.
