Whitsun PL Kicks Girls’ Event Brings Confidence, Connection and New Friendships

During Whitsun Half Term, we were proud to welcome the Wolves Foundation and our Albion girls for a special Premier League Kicks day celebrating unity, confidence and the joy of football.

With the Black Country Derby returning next season, the session offered a simple but meaningful opportunity to demonstrate what PL Kicks values look like when both foundations come together.

The afternoon was filled with football‑based activities, team‑building challenges and friendly matches, all designed to promote enjoyment, teamwork and confidence rather than competition. Coaches from both foundations worked side‑by‑side to create a welcoming environment where every girl felt included. We know that mixed tournaments can feel daunting for some young players; many girls choose not to attend because they fear being left out or overshadowed. Providing a dedicated space where they can express themselves, grow and build character is essential to their development on and off the pitch.

Throughout the day, the girls had the chance to develop their football skills and connect with players from the opposing club. The session kicked off with a scavenger hunt that encouraged communication and teamwork- and the girls needed no convincing to pair up with their opposite numbers.

Next came a football activity carousel, giving participants the chance to try different drills, sharpen their technique and challenge themselves in a fun, pressure‑free setting. Stations included a crossbar challenge, penalty challenge and a variety of target‑practice activities. The afternoon rounded off with plenty of match play, keeping the atmosphere light‑hearted and full of smiles.

Community Engagement Coach Mia Griffin reflected on the impact of the day:

“The day was a great success. It was so nice for the girls from both clubs to get together and interact in such a positive way. Girls from both clubs were great role models of the PL Kicks values- showing leadership, confidence, resilience and, most importantly, creating new friendships, which is what the event was all about. The event wasn’t about competition; it was about creating a safe space for the girls to share their passion and love of the game and to have fun in a football‑based afternoon.”

The girls’ feedback said it all. One participant shared, “I have had so much fun — when is the next one!” Another added, “I was so nervous at first, but the Wolves girls were so nice and we’ve all made friends.”

Events like this highlight the importance of providing dedicated opportunities for girls to thrive- and we’re proud to continue creating spaces where they can flourish, feel valued and enjoy the game they love.
