Ryan Mason | Players will need to be in right headspace for Millwall

Ryan Mason says Albion need to be in the “right headspace” on Saturday for their Sky Bet Championship clash with Millwall.

The fixture with the Lions will be the Baggies’ second away game in four days following on from Wednesday night’s 1-0 triumph over Norwich City in Norfolk.

Hosts Millwall were beaten 4-0 at the Den by Coventry City on the same night Mason’s men earned another three second-tier points at Carrow Road, with kick-off in the capital taking place 65 hours after both encounters ended in midweek.

The boss insists his group have tried to recover as best as possible and is adamant they’ve got their minds focused on recording a fourth win in five on their travels in the Championship and not the physical and mental demands of the quick turnaround.

Ryan said: “We got a great result at Norwich on Wednesday and we have our sights set on picking up another away win at Millwall.

"I mean, it's an interesting turnaround in terms of the travel and the timing of the games, but we have to accept it and we have to try and to arrive Saturday ready to compete because that's what we need to do. We'll be ready.

“We travelled home after the game at Norwich, worked on Thursday, we’re working again on Friday and travelling to London after training. A lot of it is about recovering and preparing for Saturday.

“But, like I’ve said before, we've got a squad for a reason, so hopefully everyone will be available for Saturday.

“The turnaround isn't enough to work in terms of on the pitch. There will be a lot of meetings.

“By the time we arrive Saturday, they need to be in the right headspace and physically ready to go and compete because you need to compete in this league, at this level, every single game.

“There's such a demand from a physical point of view, so we've got to make sure we're ready.

“We know what going to Millwall is all about. We’ll have to be ready to handle the demands and we know they’ll be fighting to earn a better result than Wednesday.”
