James Morrison is confident his team can re-find a winning formula if they stick to their principles and way of playing.
Albion welcome Watford to The Hawthorns on Saturday (ko 3pm) in their next Sky Bet Championship test.
The Baggies produced a dominant performance over Charlton Athletic on Wednesday night, but were left frustrated when the visitors’ only shot on target meant Morrison’s side were forced to settle for a point.
However, the boss is sure the squad can find the right balance between exciting attacking football and defensive solidity if they continue to follow their beliefs.
“I think you need to find the balance between being dominant with attacking football and being tight at the back,” the gaffer explained. “Long-term, if we stick to our beliefs, it’ll get there.
“Of course it’s all about winning, but winning can sometimes paper over the cracks, so I think we’re going in the right direction, but we’ll need to finish off the final details.
“Wednesday night was a lesson moving forward, but I think when we’re in this division, we’re always going to have teams come here, show us respect and be hard to break down.
“The way we had the ball and had them with their back to goal is what I want, but historically we’ve had too many draws, so we need to turn games like that into wins.”
Watford have had some tough fixtures on paper so far this season, but did pick up early points against Southampton, Wrexham and West Ham United.
Morrison added: “I think it will be the same type of game as Charlton was. Watford are really good on transition and look like a well-organised team. I think the preparation we gave the lads for Charlton is also very useful for Watford, but they have got more of a threat.
“We’ve all got a desire for clean sheets. Charlton had one shot on target and it was a goal, so we’re going through a bit of punishment at the moment.
“We need to make a beeline for clean sheets, make some tweaks and manage the situations.
“We’ve not got any new injuries. Tammer Bany is going to play for the under-21s this weekend to continue his plan and keep him progressing. We had a good conversation and he’s fully on board with the plan we’ve got for him.
“We’re still waiting for confirmation on Mikey Johnston. He’s with the consultant who is trying to get to the bottom of it. He had a flare-up on his ankle injury from last season, so we’re just being careful.
“Brayann (Pereira) has had two days of training and has settled in really well. It helps that we already have some French-speaking players and he seems like a really nice kid. I’m excited to work with him and see what he can bring.
“Aune Heggebø is gradually getting back to where he was. This illness has been dragging on for a bit, but he looks much better now. We missed his threat in the box on Wednesday night, so it’ll be good when he’s back to full fitness."
