Ryan Mason said the “feeling is good” in camp ahead of Albion’s Sky Bet Championship match at Watford on Wednesday night (ko 7.45pm).

The Baggies are heading south with a sense of optimism following last weekend’s 2-1 win over Preston North End.

And the boss has challenged his team to back up Saturday’s showing by being “ready to compete” and earning another positive result - despite the demanding schedule this week.

He also gave an update on Toby Collyer, as well as the overall fitness of his squad, before the visit to Vicarage Road.

“Toby’s out after he had to come off in the Preston game,” said Ryan. “We’re assessing a few others, but hopefully everyone else will be OK.

“It's just part of it, to be honest. You just need to try and understand all the information, how the players feel and the moment each individual is in, and the team are in.

“Sometimes we're going to need to make changes, sometimes it's better to roll out the same team, and I think that's the decision that me and the coaches will come to together. That is the challenge.

“We had a good result the other day, so the feeling is good. We’ll train, travel down, and decide the team. Everyone’s got a really important part to play.

“Everyone needs to be ready to compete, one hundred per cent. If you’re not, then ultimately you don’t win games of football.

“Certainly, it's a mentality thing. I think the more you go through it, the more you feel it, the better you understand it. At the top level, you have to play a game every three days, and at the biggest clubs, you have to win every three days as well. It's such a challenge and that’s the environment we want to try and create here.”

The clash will see Javi Gracia take charge of his first home fixture since being re-appointed Hornets Head Coach earlier in the month.

But Mason wants his side to use any “added energy” inside the stadium to their advantage, pointing out that they have overcome similar scenarios already this season.

“He (Gracia) is an extremely good manager, we know that,” added Ryan. “We also know Watford have got some individuals that are really good.

“I think a lot of our away games this season, there's been an added element to the match.

“I think we played Stoke when they were top. We played Boro when they were top. The Wrexham game, it was their first at this level in a very long time.

“Wednesday we play against a team with a new manager in his first home game, so there's going to be added energy inside the stadium. I think for us it's important to try and use that to our benefit, and use it to give us the energy to try and put ourselves inside of the game as much as possible - and as early as possible.”
