Matt Gill joins James Morrison’s coaching team with important experience up and down the English Football League.
A three-time promotion winner during his playing days with Peterborough United, Exeter and Norwich City - over a career which saw him make more than 400 appearances - Gill’s swansong at Tranmere Rovers allowed him to make the transition to the sidelines in 2014.
Starting as an assistant coach on Merseyside, the 45-year-old returned to East Anglia as the Under-23s manager at Carrow Road before switching to local rivals Ipswich Town to join UEFA Champions League winner, Paul Lambert’s coaching setup.
Back in senior football, Gill was named first team coach at Portman Road in 2018 - remaining with the Tractor Boys until 2021 where opportunities, first with Milton Keynes Dons and then Swansea City as technical development coach, presented themselves.
Matt’s effectiveness with senior players was clear in his promotion to assistant head coach at the South Wales outfit in 2022 - a role he maintained at Southampton during the 23/24 campaign, helping them reach the Premier League at the end of his first term at St. Mary's, and then Scottish top-flight side Rangers in the summer of 2025.
And Gill will look to utilise his experiences across British football in the Baggies' 11 remaining Sky Bet Championship matches.
