Max O’Leary hailed “big performances” from his team-mates following a “tricky” 0-0 draw away at Birmingham City last night.
Eric Ramsay’s side battled away under the lights on Tuesday evening, and Max shone throughout, pulling off a handful of spectacular saves.
But it wasn’t just his heroics that kept the Baggies in the game, as goal-line clearances from Charlie Taylor and Callum Styles ensured Albion were the first team to come away from St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park with a clean sheet in the Sky Bet Championship this season.
Max said: “It was a tricky game. Obviously, conditions were tough, it was a good atmosphere and they’re a good team as well, but we did well to hang in there and get a point.
“There were some really big performances out there from the boys. I think you’ve got to manage the situation and we did that pretty well.
“Yes, we’d probably liked to have played a bit more than we did, but like I said, the situation is what it is and we’ve got that foundation to build on.
“You can almost try a bit too hard and things don’t quite come off sometimes, but just play with a level head and things will turn and we’ll keep getting results.”
The result means Albion have kept back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since October 2024, and it was a big team effort on the night.
“Charlie’s goal-line clearance was my favourite moment, it was unbelievable,” Max said with a smile. “He wasn’t the only one, but obviously that sticks out.
“For me, it was nice to help out; it’s what I’m there to do. That’s a goalkeeper's way of helping the team out, building that foundation and staying in the game.
“If we’re in the game, there’s always a chance we’ll win, so yeah, we had some good chances today and would’ve liked a few more maybe, but it was a good performance to build on.”
