Loan review: Morton inspires Fleetwood comeback

Callum Morton

Callum Morton netted a late goal to help loan side Fleetwood Town seal a 2-2 draw against Sunderland in Sky Bet League One on Saturday afternoon.

Ross Stewart's first-half strike, followed by an Aiden McGeady penalty after the break, gave the Black Cats a seemingly comfortable advantage heading into the final 10 minutes at Highbury Stadium.

But on-fire Morton netted his fifth goal in three games to rally the hosts, and Gerard Garner bagged a 97th minute penalty to rescue a point for Simon Grayson’s side.

Elsewhere in England's third tier over the weekend, Josh Griffiths was between the sticks for Lincoln City’s home clash with Ipswich Town.

However, the 20-year-old couldn’t prevent his side falling to a 1-0 defeat at Sincil Bank, as Macauley Bonne's effort stopped the Imps from extending their recent three-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

Finally, Jovan Malcolm was handed his first start for Accrington Stanley on Saturday during their 4-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic.

The 18-year-old played the first 45 minutes before being substituted at the break, though the forward was in scoring form for Stanley’s Under-23s during their Central League Cup fixture last Tuesday. Malcolm netted a brace to help a young Accrington side come from behind to draw 3-3 with Bolton Wanderers.
