Loan review | Eight in EFL action over the weekend

Jamie Andrews in action for Grimsby Town against Swindon

Eight Albion players featured for their loan clubs across three different divisions over the weekend.

Striker Mo Faal scored his second goal of the season for Doncaster Rovers in Sky Bet League Two, netting the fifth and final one of the game as his side suffered a 3-2 defeat at Barrow.

Faal’s fine back-post header gave Doncaster hope at Holker Street, but the hosts hung on to claim all three points.

The Baggies forward started on the bench, but came on in the 58th minute for Harrison Biggins.

Barrow’s goalscorers were Tyrell Warren, Gerard Garner and Emile Acquah, with Joe Ironside joining Mo on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Elsewhere in League Two, Midfielder Jamie Andrews completed 90 minutes for Grimsby Town who slipped to a 2-1 reverse at Swindon Town.

Daniel Kemp and Jake Cain put the home team 2-0 up before Donovan Wilson pulled one back 20 minutes from time.

Right back Ethan Ingram played 68 minutes of Salford City’s 2-1 home win against Newport County.

Ingram was taken off with the score already at 2-1, being replaced by Ryan Watson. Matthew Lund and Declan Drysdale (OG) scored for Salford, while Bryn Morris notched for Newport.

Finally in the fourth tier, winger Rayhaan Tulloch completed 73 minutes for Bradford City as they lost 3-1 at home to Walsall. Tyler Smith came on in place of the Albion youngster.

Andy Cook’s penalty gave the Bantams the lead, but three strikes from Liam Gordon, Aramide Oteh and Freddie Draper sealed a super away success for the Saddlers.

Up a division in Sky Bet League One, striker Jovan Malcolm played 67 minutes of Cheltenham Town’s 2-0 defeat at Lincoln City.

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji replaced Malcolm in a game which was settled by Lasse Sorensen’s brace.

Elsewhere in the third tier, defender Zac Ashworth came on in second-half injury time for Bolton Wanderers who won 1-0 at Port Vale.

Ashworth was swapped on for Randell Williams at Vale Park where Dion Charles’ effort two minutes before the break was enough to seal the victory.

In the Sky Bet Championship, Karlan Grant helped Cardiff City to another win by setting up Kion Etete for their first goal in Saturday’s 2-0 home triumph over Rotherham United.

Grant’s left-wing cross landed perfectly on Etete’s head in the 56th minute, a strike which was followed up by Perry Ng’s close-range effort in added time.

Grant played just shy of 90 minutes and was replaced by Ike Ugbo at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Finally, Taylor Gardner-Hickman played the final 36 minutes for Bristol City who lost 3-2 at home to Stoke City.

Gardner-Hickman was introduced in place of George Tanner at Ashton Gate on an afternoon where the Potters came from 2-0 down to claim all three points.
