Ryan Mason revealed plenty of positive news regarding the fitness of a number of his first-team players in his pre-match press conference on Friday afternoon.

The boss offered updates on defender Charlie Taylor, midfielder Tammer Bany and attackers Daryl Dike and Karlan Grant.

Taylor missed the club’s defeat at Millwall in the most recent match before the October international break.

Grant hasn’t featured since the end of August, with Bany and Dike yet to earn any senior minutes so far this term as a result of injuries.

The boss told members of the media the quartet are back in training with the group, who have been preparing for Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship showdown with Preston North End at The Hawthorns.

Mason said: “Tammer Bany played 45 minutes the other night for our PL2 team. He’s going to need more minutes because he’s had no football in quite a long time. He won’t be available this weekend.

“Daryl Dike is back in training with the group and we’re seeing how he is day-to-day.

“We’ve got a healthy group at the moment. There’s probably going to be a couple missing out, but we’re yet to decide that.

“Charlie Taylor is back training after picking up the injury at Norwich. He missed Millwall and has had a bit of time out. He’s had a couple of sessions with the group, so he’s back.

“Karlan Grant is getting closer and is training with the group. He’s similar to Dike, had a long time out but is training with the group. The decision with their involvement is yet to be made, we just need to understand what is best for them.

“The players who have been away with their national teams have come back okay, which is important.

“It’s important the lads are there in training and they are engaged and feel part of it. It’s difficult being out and not being involved with the squad.

“We’ve got a squad of players that we’re going to need and we’ll utilise everyone. The more players we have fit and ready to help us win games of football can only be a positive for us.”
