Jed Wallace dedicates Sunderland success to Julian Widdowson

Jed Wallace applauds Albion fans

Jed Wallace dedicated Monday night’s 2-1 victory up at Sunderland to the club’s Doctor Julian Widdowson, who sadly, and suddenly, passed away over the weekend.

Julian, a highly-respected sports medicine doctor, joined the Baggies in 2018 and was a popular figure around the training ground and The Hawthorns among players and staff.

Wallace, who won the Man of the Match vote for his performance at the Stadium of Light, set up Daryl Dike to nod in the winner just eight minutes from time.

And the winger says the three points were specifically for Julian, who will be sorely missed.

Jed said: “It’s been a really tough few days for everyone at the club.

“We lost our beloved doctor over the weekend which was really hard for us all, especially the medical department.

“We wanted to get the win for him at Sunderland and I’m so pleased we were able to do that.

“We want to send our best wishes to the Doc’s family and friends.

“I think he would have been proud of the performance.

“I also want to thank the fans who travelled up to Sunderland in the terrible conditions on a Monday night.

“We got ourselves a great result and hopefully we can carry on climbing up the league.

“We’ve now got four wins in a row and we’re building plenty of momentum. We all want to carry on winning games and building more momentum.”
