James Morrison confirmed Jed Wallace missed Good Friday’s fixture against Wrexham with a calf injury.
The club captain was absent as Albion and the Welsh outfit drew 2-2 at The Hawthorns in the Sky Bet Championship.
Morrison is hopeful Wallace can return before the end of the season.
The interim head coach said: “I could’ve cried last week when he picked up the injury because he’s been superb for us and he was a big miss on Friday.
“He pulled his calf in training, so fingers crossed he may be back for the end of the season.
“Seeing him go down, I could’ve cried. He’s arguably been one of our best players with the way he’s been driving the team, his balls into the box and then his personality as our captain, so it’s up to someone else now to step up and take his place on the pitch.
“I asked him to keep doing his role from the sidelines, get the lads going and we need to be together. I don’t want anything different from his positivity.”
