James Morrison | Recent form has been pleasing but there's still work to do

James Morrison says Albion's recent run of results has been impressive, but also stressed the importance of maintaining their positive momentum in the final three fixtures of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Baggies, who welcome Watford to The Hawthorns on Tuesday night (ko 7.45pm), extended their unbeaten run to eight games with victory over Preston North End at Deepdale on Saturday, where strikes from forward duo Josh Maja and Daryl Dike proved to be the difference.

The Hornets, sat in the middle of the division, head to the West Midlands having lost three of their last four games, including a 2-0 reverse at home to Sheffield United over the weekend.

Morrison heaped praise on his outfit for their positive form when speaking to the media at The Fitlife Foods Performance Centre on Monday afternoon, pointing specifically to strong defensive displays which has seen Albion collect five clean sheets in the last six encounters.

The Interim Head Coach hopes his team do their “talking on the pitch” on Tuesday

The Interim Head Coach said: “We’re letting the football do its talking. We want to do our talking on the pitch and we have been really pleased with our recent form.

“When a side can keep the ball out of their own net and continue to score in the other, that’s the mark of a good team. We can take pride in our performances, and particularly our clean sheets, which is a huge credit to our defensive unit.

“Our centre-halves deserve praise for their form because that partnership has been excellent. They complement each other well, George (Campbell) has attributes that Nat (Phillips) hasn’t and vice versa, they’re both great lads to have around the place too.

“At the start of the season, George had to do a job for the team, and now he’s got his shot in his best position - he’s taking that chance well. I don’t need to say too much to Stylesy (Callum Styles), he does his job and is happy to play wherever.

“I’ve been really pleased with Danny (Imray), he came in during a difficult time but has really grown. He’ll take great progress away from this loan, and that’s how it should be.

Mozza heaped praise on his defensive unit for their work in recent weeks

“That momentum from that first result at Sheffield United has spurred us on, and we’ve just kept going from there. Sometimes in these situations, simplifying it for everyone can be the best way, and we’ve started with that.

“It’s a big one on Tuesday night, especially at home. We’ve got to keep that home record strong, and it’ll be no different on Tuesday, but we’re aware of Watford - they’re a dangerous team. They’re one of the youngest teams in the league, are very talented, have a lot of pace and have some really good footballers.

“We've put in some really good performances and come away with some really good results over the last six or seven weeks. We're pleased with that, but we know we haven't achieved what we've all set out to do yet. There's still important work to do and we're determined to do that work.

“The supporters have been right behind us all the way this season. We just want to give back to them, and Tuesday is another opportunity to get to where we want to be.”
