James Morrison labelled his first-team group a “joy to work with” following their 2-0 triumph at Peterborough United on Saturday afternoon.
Second-half strikes from forwards Aune Heggebø and Barney Stewart secured another pre-season win at the Weston Homes Stadium.
Albion are now just one week away from their season opener at Rotherham United in the first round of the Carabao Cup, and the boss says he was really happy with the “intensity” of the performance against the League One outfit on what was another extremely hot summer’s day.
Morrison said: “I’ve got no worries about our fitness levels because the lads work hard every single day.
“We’re continuing the work we were doing last season in terms of giving absolutely everything.
“I thought the game was what I wanted. They gave us some problems and they gave us an opportunity to fix things at the break. I thought we were really good for those 20 minutes right after the interval.
“Winning games and our strikers scoring goals – they are good habits. I want the mentality of the whole group to be one where they know we’re trying to win every single game.
“I want them to have that switch that when we cross that white line, we have nothing but a winning mentality. You can see the lads are working hard for each other.
“It was a difficult afternoon when you consider the weather and the pitch being fairly dry as a result, but I thought the intensity was there all game. We were much better with the ball in the second half and we managed to fix our press also.
“I’m happy with where things are. I can’t ask for any more from the lads. I know I keep saying it, but I am. They’re a joy to work with every day and I get excited to work with them. I’d rather work with a group with that passion than the talent sometimes. I’m really happy.
“You could see Nolan Galves’ attributes and you could see them from day one. It’s something I like in a full-back when they attack and they give us the width with the structure we have. He adapted really well and we’re really pleased to have given him just under 70 minutes.”
