James Morrison says he “didn’t recognise” his team as they were defeated in the Black Country derby on Sunday afternoon.
The Baggies were undone by a second-half Fer Lopez strike, with the visitors unable to respond following the Spaniard's close-range effort.
The boss admitted it was an “off day” for his side, and one where Albion created their own problems.
He said: “We got what we deserved in the game. I didn’t recognise the team or the way we played, we made mistakes and didn’t threaten their goal enough.
“We need to get better at set plays, we had six or seven today and didn’t threaten enough. We created our own pressure by giving the ball away, we got to half-time still in the game, and I expected to see a reaction, and I didn’t really.
“It’s an off day for us, and we created anxiety in the game by giving the ball away - I didn’t feel we had the belief in the team.
“I wanted them to show that belief that we’d go and impose ourselves on the game. I didn’t want the constant pressure of giving up too many chances, and it didn’t feel like we did.
“It was the quality of the balls into the box that needed to be better. I liked Barney Stewart when he came on today, he did a good job up there. I needed someone to take the game by the scruff of the neck, and maybe we’d have come away from it differently.”
