Isaac Price believes the Baggies put their “bodies on the line” to secure three points against Blackburn Rovers on the opening day of the Sky Bet Championship campaign.

The Northern Ireland international scored the game’s only goal inside the opening 20 minutes, placing the ball into the bottom corner from close range following a long throw from Darnell Furlong.

Ryan Mason’s side had opportunities to increase their advantage before Blackburn grew into the encounter and piled on the aerial pressure towards the end.

The Baggies stuck together and defended valiantly to close the game out and seal a hard-fought triumph.

Isaac said: “It’s a great feeling. The job today was just to get three points and it didn’t really matter how we did it.

“We always knew it was going to be a tough game because Blackburn Rovers make it tough.

“We probably didn’t play the way we wanted to play as much, but at the end of the day we’ve got the three points and we’re absolutely buzzing with that.

“I definitely think it was a deserved win. I thought we were the better team on the day and we created some clear cut chances and we could’ve had two or three more as well.

“They made it difficult for us in the second half. We had a 1-0 lead and we were trying to keep it, but they were going for it a little bit more. There were probably a few tired legs, but I thought we dug in well and I thought the back four and Josh Griffiths in goal were unbelievable.

“They were putting headers in at the end and making lots of blocks too, putting their bodies on the line and that’s what it’s all about.

“When you know your mate next to you is going to put his body on the line then it encourages you to do the same too. Sometimes winning that way is better than winning three or four nil.

“The goal sat really nicely for me. It was a great set from Aune Heggebø and I just had to pass it into the back of the net.

“The games come thick and fast and we want to keep improving.”
