Hull City beat Albion 1-0 at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

Oli McBurnie’s first-half penalty was enough to separate the Sky Bet Championship sides.

Ryan Mason’s men are next in action Boxing Day, when they host Bristol City.

Winger Mikey Johnston almost netted inside four minutes, curling his free-kick just wide from the edge of the box.

Hull did threaten momentarily, as Charlie Hughes and  McBurnie both sent headers off-target, but other than that it was all Albion.

Isaac Price soon sent a close-range finish over after good play by Karlan Grant in what was the visitors’ best first-half chance. Grant himself then volleyed another excellent opportunity inches past the post around the half-hour mark.

Yet despite the Baggies’ dominance, they found themselves behind at the break. The referee awarded Hull a penalty for handball, leaving McBurnie to step up and score his spot-kick during stoppage time.

The game was cagier following the restart, with neither team able to create the same number of openings.

Grant saw a low drive comfortably saved, while substitute Chris Mepham blocked Liam Millar’s dangerous attempt, during the second period’s earlier stages.

Albion were reduced to 10-men 15 minutes before the end when Alfie Gilchrist was shown a red card.

Even a player down, the Baggies continued to try and find an equaliser. However, the goal they craved did not arrive, leaving them harshly empty handed on Humberside.
