George Campbell | We need everyone to get through this period

Georeg Campbell Reaction.

George Campbell believes Saturday's point at Sheffield United has only strengthened the collective ethos in the Albion dressing room.

James Morrison’s side put in a very positive performance away at Bramall Lane and departed South Yorkshire with a share of the spoils, courtesy of USMNT centre-back Campbell's stunning second-half strike.

Frustratingly, the 24-year-old turned the ball into his own net prior to making amends with the Baggies' leveller, but getting something to bring back home from a "tough place" has given his team-mates renewed confidence ahead of next Wednesday's clash with Southampton, says George.

“I think there was obviously a bit of relief after coming from behind," the defender explained.

“There was someone behind me ready to tap it in (for their goal), but I still should do better with it by getting to ground quicker or being on my toes and there’s always something I could do better.

“Afterwards, I tried my best not to dwell on it and lead from the back as normal to try and help the team get back in the game.

“For my goal, it was more about getting my first touch right than expecting to shoot.

"Then it sat up for me after my second touch and at that point, there was nothing else in my mind - I just wanted to strike through the ball, get it on target, see what happens and, luckily, it went in.

George Campbell applauds the fans

"I've said it before, but our fans can be like a 12th man for us on the pitch and it's going to take everyone in the locker room, and in the stands to get us through this period.

"Their support can help us fight for more wins and get us over the line in the moment we're in.

"I hope we can get them going even more and be positive for the games to come.

“We’re happy to get a point at a tough place to play and we’re now looking forward to Southampton on Wednesday."
