West Bromwich Albion players recently made a series of inspiring appearances across Sandwell, visiting six local schools and lessons.
The visits saw players connect with pupils and students through assemblies; interactive activities and all schools part took in open Q&A sessions.
At St Martins C of E Primary School, Charlie Taylor and Harry Whitwell accompanied Foundation staff in hosting assemblies where they built up a great understanding with younger pupils. Fun football challenges, including kick-ups and toe taps, helped create a fun atmosphere. Pupils in Years 3 up to Year 6 asked thoughtful and enthusiastic questions, with plenty of laughter throughout, making the experience memorable for everyone involved.
Josh Griffiths and Samuel Lling Junior captained teams in a unique session focused on communication, working with pupils in Years 7 to Year 10. Through interactive, non-verbal activities such as silent team games, cone based Connect 4 and Pictionary, pupils explored how communication plays a vital role in football and everyday life. The session concluded with a Q&A covering teamwork, personal experiences and cultural backgrounds.
Jed Wallace and Joe Wildsmith joined pupils for assemblies themed around World Book Day and National Book Year. The session reinforced the importance of reading alongside sporting ambitions.
Ousmane Diakite and Daryl Dike met with secondary school students from Q3 Academy, giving aspiring footballers the chance to hear first-hand what it takes and how their journeys have been. This visit was all about aspiring young footballers speaking to real footballers and motivating pupils to believe in themselves while understanding the dedication required to succeed.
Jayson Molumby and Aune Heggebø spent time with college students from Sandwell College, engaging in conversations around pathways, fitness and life beyond football.
During an evening session at Sandwell Academy, the girls’ football programme was visited by George Campbell and Ollie Bostock. They interacted with participants, offering encouragement, advice and insight into elite sport. The session aimed to inspire confidence and continued participation in football among young people.
The Albion Foundation would like to thank West Bromwich Albion Football Club for supporting the visit and helping to deliver a truly memorable experience for young people across Sandwell.
